Asbestos discovered in road base material at Goolwa depot | The Times

A quantity of bonded asbestos has been discovered within recycled road base material at the Fleurieu Regional Waste Authority’s (FRWA) Goolwa Waste and Recycling Depot.

FRWA is now seeking to identify anyone who has purchased the material between September 1, 2020 and March 31, 2021 from the Goolwa, Strathalbyn or Yankalilla Waste and Recycling Depots.

In a statement, a FRWA spokesperson said recent testing of recycled road base material had identified “a very small quantity of bonded asbestos within the stockpile.”

“The Fleurieu Regional Waste Authority has recently undertaken testing of a 4500 tonne stockpile of recycled crushed concrete at the Goolwa Waste and Recycling Depot, and has found four small pieces of bonded asbestos weighing…
